The 15 second warning

Anyone who has taken a road trip with kids knows this scenario. One moment, everything seems hunky-dorry, then wham-o…someone isn’t feeling so well.

I call it the 15 second warning. Here’s how it goes:

“Dad, I’m not feeling well.”

14, 13, 12…

“Are you going to throw up?” I ask from the driver’s seat.

10, 9, 8, 7…

“I just need some fresh air.”

Oh no, “fresh air”. That means I only have 5 seconds!

5, 4, 3…

Watch the road, look for a safe turn-off. Does he have a bag? What’s he wearing? What’s in front of him?

Then, the sound of the window going down.

2, 1…

(Insert vomiting sound coming from backseat. Imagine the rest.)
