According to Wikipedia, Home on the Range is the official song of the state of Kansas.
I’ve always loved that song and it’s come to feel like a bit of an anthem for our new life here on the central Alberta range lands. So when Ella started playing the song in piano lessons, I was thrilled because she would come to live it as well.
Today, as I was puttering about, I heard her playing the song over and over. Each time she played it, she would switch the voice of the piano (the benefits of an electric piano) which really changes the feel of the song.
In this video, you can see Ella unselfconsciously playing and singing along. The piano’s voice and her slightly halting style imparts an almost melancholy feel to the song.
Now, is it just me or is the sight and sound of a young girl playing piano and singing for her own pleasure not one of the most beautiful things?

Well done, Ella. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this song for a long time to come.

Very good, Ella! You have a good sense of pitch and rhythm, and most important, the feeling of the music.
I hope you’ll come and play my piano when you’re in Toronto this summer.
