For their last birthday (or was it the one before that?) we bought the twins one of those 5/8 sized guitars. They’ve barely touched it since.

The guitar was sitting in Ben’s room the other night and I picked it up and made up a silly bedtime song on the spot. You know, one of those G-C-D type songs, singing whatever silly lyrics came into my head, mostly about going to sleep, having good dreams, etc. Ben really seemed to like it.

“Dad, how do you write music for the guitar?” Ben asked me. “Does it look the same as piano music?”

“It can,” I replied,”but usually it is written with chords.”

“Can you teach me to play some chords?’

“Sure, bud, I’ll teach you some tomorrow. Maybe one day you can write me a bedtime song.”

“Yeah, dad. A love song.”

For all of his bad attitude, gosh, he still is a sweetheart.
