Downtown farmers market is a hit

100515_edmonton_farmers_marketAn all-round gorgeous day greeted market goers in downtown Edmonton today. No one in my family was disappointed with the outing – except perhaps LA who had to stay at home and monitor the landscaping work that got underway today in the front yard.

We started at the north end and walked toward Jasper Ave., scoping out what we wanted to buy and tasting some yummy stuff along the way (peanuts, pesto salad dressing, and cinnamon-flavoured caramel corn, for instance). On the way back, we stopped for balloon toys and hot dogs, before grabbing some cotton candy and kettle corn. Oh, and the lemon tarts and blueberry pie – Maddy’s idea.

The weirdest part of our visit to the market was the number of people who assumed Maddy was the twin’s mom. Seeing her Batman t-shirt, one woman said to the twins, “Someone’s mom’s a superhero today.” At the police booth, the lady said, “So, have mom and dad heard about our auto-theft prevention program?”

Seriously, folks. Do I look like Woody Allen? It feels a bit creepy that people think that. I mean, she’s 17 and I’m almost 46. She may look 21 and I may look, well, not a day past 42. But still, it’s twice her age. Not to mention the 7 year old twins which she would have had at 14.

Overall, our trip to downtown farmers market was great and we can now strike it off our must-do-this-summer list.

Now it’s on our “must-do-regularly” list.
