Some kids are drawers, some are colourers. Some like building things. Some like crafts. Mine like all of these.
So I am constantly looking for activities online that foster creativity rather than stifle it. Today, I found online drawing. As Benny graduated from colouring to drawing in the past few weeks and months, just today I Googled “how to draw _____” and filled in the blank with whatever Pokemon character he wanted to draw.
I eventually stumbled onto the site Drawing Now and found some Pokemon characters and many others. I tried a few others out on him, but this one stuck for one reason: good user interface. I don’t really like the look of the site aesthetically, but it has a key usability feature that Benny kept coming back to as desirable. He liked the way he could start and stop the drawing so he could do it incrementally. And the drawings were not too difficult.
Benny was so excited about how good is drawing was that he framed it and gave it to his “best” friend from school.
Kids are good at telling you what they want and like. This was definitely a hit for Benny. Try it on your kid.
