Ice on Whyte is very cool

January 15, 2010 @ retlap2 Comments

We had an early Shabbat dinner this week and headed out to Ice on Whyte this evening to see the ice sculptures. It was great to be there at night and see the ice lit up – and it was a beautiful above zero evening. Actually, a little too warm, given the activity.

We entered and crossed the ice bridge on the way to the ice castle. Inside the castle was the fireplace, pictured above. There was also a cool ice maze that Maddy and Ella tried.

There wasn’t much we could do to not focus on the illuminated ice slide. I quick drop-off couple with crazy carpets made for a very fast run down the slide. Ben zeroed in on the slide right away, but I was concerned. The slide speed was fast and the adults were being thrown around on the curves. I was worried he would get thrown against the slide’s ice block side wall. I was hesitating, when Maddy pointed out there was a height requirement. That would be my out. Oops. Apparently, they are tall enough. Well, Ella was afraid to go and so was Maddy. Benny was the hold-out.

After I refused to let him on the slide, we took a stroll through the ice sculptures being prepared for tomorrow’s competition. We will return tomorrow to see the winning carvings and LA will present the awards to the winner.

We tried to grab a few nice shots before we left. Benny was having any of it.

Maddy and Ella were much more cooperative.

We don’t understand why Benny couldn’t go down the slide!

It was a parental call. You had to see how fast the adults were sliding down, being whipped from side to side. I had visions of head hitting ice wall on the slide and that was it. Even Maddy was afraid to go.
