She was asking for my opinion about what she should wear. I should have known something was up.
She wanted to wear the dress she bought for David’s Bar Mitzvah with her Converse runners. Uh, I don’t think so. Unless you are going to a Halloween party dressed like Avril Lavigne.
Leigh-Anne got home from work and helped out. The result: black tights, gray v-neck sweater, wide black belt, high-heels. She looked great. Tall, slim, beautiful. Accessorized with LA’s old Louis Vuitton handbag – she was dressed to kill, as they say.
I drove her to the Cactus Club Cafe, near West Edmonton Mall, and dropped her at the door.
She got out of the car and I watched her walk purposefully up to the door – legs like a gazelle, blond hair flowing behind her, never once looking back. As she disappeared inside the door, I realized I’d just said goodbye to the 6 year old who welcomed me into her life ten years ago with such an open heart.
She was a young woman now – and a pretty amazing one at that.
