I am an avid music person.
As long as I can remember, music informed my memories of my childhood. Whether it be the AM radio pop music of the early 70s or my parents’ love of jazz and classical music, I associate sounds with people and events. My memories are awakened by hearing those sounds again. It’s almost as if by hearing the music again I can travel back in time and get a glimmer of what I felt like back then.
With the birth of my twins, I started creating slide shows of their first years, combining pictures with musical accompaniment. Each of them had a segment of the slide show dedicated to them and somehow I assigned each of these segments a song. Ella particularly loves watching the slide shows and after some time she started referring to “her” song and “Ben’s” song.
I hope that these songs have come to represent many things to them – my deep love for them and lasting good memories of their childhood.
I picked the songs themselves because of how they sound, as much as what they say.
